From the Publisher…
Modern science has learned that our brains are not hardwired from birth. On the contrary, the brain is astonishingly changeable.
Our every thought, emotion (especially strong emotions), and action is constantly rewiring our brain.
As children we need to be able to function in the physical world and so our brain develops to support that.
However, the price we pay is to move our attention away from more subtle realities. And thus, our ability to perceive “non-ordinary” reality is gradually lost for most people.
The good news is that we can methodically rewire our brain to support subtler perception, intuitive thinking, and higher feeling. We can rewire our brains to support the direct experience of our divine Self.
The science and method is explained in our feature article, “The Neuroscience of Self-Realization.”
What prevents us from experiencing these higher realities?
Basically, we are too busy, distracted, stressed out. See “Feeling Overwhelmed” and “Nervousness: The World’s Disease”
One huge antidote to the worries of modern life is the spiritual practice of contentment.
Contentment—it has been rightly said—is the supreme virtue. However, true contentment doesn’t mean passivity. It doesn’t mean giving up your goals and never trying to improve yourself.
It’s a matter of being content with what you have and who you are, but at the same time, realizing that as humans, we will always try to improve, no matter how happy we are. If we don’t, we have given up on life.
Discover why this isn’t a contradiction, the amazing things the practice of contentment can create in all aspects of our lives and a few tips for getting to contentment in our feature article, “The Incredible Power of Contentment.”
You’ll also find many related articles by a variety of authors to inspire and inform you on your spiritual journey, as well as a selection of heartfelt stories, videos, inspiration and practices.
I hope you enjoy this issue and find it helpful.
