Friday Reflection—I Choose To Be Happy

January 8, 2016 by Kamala

I can be happy or sad as I choose.

Remember, no one can affect your happiness unless you, yourself, choose to be unhappy. If you have made up your mind to be happy, to keep your own inner happiness under all conditions, then no one can make you unhappy.” Paramhansa Yogananda, East-West, January, 1934

I choose to be happy.

I delight in the simple things in life. I take everything in stride and am thankful for even the smallest blessings.

Being in nature brings me peace. I enjoy relaxing on the beach and feeling the vast depths of the ocean. The sound of the ocean reminds me of the cosmic sound of OM. The waves going in and out remind me that everything passes, and I am happy here now. I look up at the stars and marvel at the beauty of creation.

I am happy when I eat my favorite treat. I am happy when there are no treats. My favorite dessert is sheer bliss. I feel like I need nothing else on earth.

My achievements make me happy. When I accomplish my goals, I feel proud of myself and enjoy giving myself rewards for my success.

Because I am always happy in myself, I rejoice in the happiness of others. I will radiate my cheer to everyone I meet today. I will be the mental sunshine for all who cross my path this day.

I love to help others. Knowing that I’m passing on some of my blessings is all the reward I need. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve others. I feel an expanded sense of joy when I reach out to others.

Worldly pleasures don’t make me happy. I enjoy what comes to me, but the pleasures of acquiring worldly possessions soon fades. Instead, I seek soulful acquisitions that leads to true happiness.

Today, I make myself happy through the simple things in life, finding joy in each moment.
