Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos—the trees, the clouds, everything.” Thich Nhat Hanh
My body is the temple of my soul. It is my vehicle for spiritual growth, allowing me to take action and serve in this world.
When I am healthy and energetic, it’s easier to be happy, kind, and loving. I respect and nourish all parts of myself. I am committed to my goal of healthy living.
I give my body the proper nutrition that it needs—not too much and not too little. I eat for health, not out of greed or for emotional comfort. I choose fresh, natural foods glowing with life force. I enjoy my meals and am grateful for every mouthful, knowing that it comes from Spirit for my nourishment.
When I exercise, I feel stronger and happier. The ordinary challenges of the day don't faze me. My body loves to move and needs exercise to be at its best. I exercise and workout in moderation. I encourage my body to go beyond previous limits, but I don’t drive it beyond healthy living. I rest and restore after exercising and between workouts.
I make sure to give myself enough time for the amount of sleep I need each night. When I get a good night’s sleep, I am more alert the next day and function optimally at work.
Adequate rest also makes me a wonderful person to be around. I recognize that when I am tired, I tend to be cranky. I avoid offending others with my crankiness by ensuring I get enough rest.
My healthy living regimen includes my spiritual health. Taking the time to connect to that deeper place within allows me to have true peace and accept myself as I am.
Today, I remind myself that I only have one body. I vow to treat it with care and respect as a gift from Spirit. I know that paying attention to my health contributes to a higher quality of life.
Self-Reflection Questions:
- How can I give myself daily reminders to follow my healthy habits?
- Have there been days when I ignore my healthy living regimen?
- Do emotionally trying circumstances cause me to overlook the importance of treating myself well?
